The Lauren Shorter Scholarship Information

Balance & Believe is proud to announce Taryn Endres of Windsor, WI as the first $10,000 recipient of the the Lauren Shorter Scholarship. The Balance & Believe Foundation recognizes personal battles, and Lauren Shorter has had one. Lauren has dealt with her knee pain for a very long time. Lots of doctors and lots have bad results. Lauren has dealt with adversity, disappointment, and perseverance. When we met Lauren, her drive to get better at golf was inspiring. Lauren got better as her high school years passed, and soon college golf was on her radar. After a tremendous junior and senior year at Verona, UW-Green Bay found a great golfer and an even more incredible person. Little did she know how serious her knee problem would become, so much that she found herself getting in line for surgery after surgery. As she researched more about her injury, it became evident that she would be getting a lot of bad news that would lead to more surgeries. Lauren took it upon herself to dig deep and find the best doctors and procedures available and pursued them like her life depended on it. She was relentless in finding an answer to relieve her of all the pain. So relentless that she changed her future career path so she could help find a solution for those that will find themselves in her position in their very own life. The news has finally gotten better for Lauren and her knee. There is hope that she will soon be pain-free, but her dreams of playing golf, just one hole of college golf, are still yet to be seen. Lauren reviewed each application to decide a winner for her scholarship.

More about Taryn Endres

Taryn Endres fell in love with golf at a young age. She began lessons at nine years old and shortly after at the age of 10 she was diagnosed with Crohn's and Colitis disease. Over time Taryn learned how to overcome and manage her disease and won't let it stop her from achieving her dreams of doing what makes her happy.

After continued battles with Crohn's and Colitis, Taryn made Second team All-Conference in girls golf both her freshman and sophomore year at Deforest High School and hopes to continue to play golf in college when she graduates. Taryn will graduate in 2022 and plans to study Psychology in college.

(Augusta, GA – Sunday, April 7, 2024) Two young ladies represented Wisconsin at the Drive Chip & Putt National Finals. McKenna Nelson and Taytum Oswald are enjoying the grounds of Augusta National today during the Monday practice round. The coolest part? They both will be bringing hardware back home after stellar performances in their respective age divisions. 2024 marks a special year – it has been exactly one decade since the USGA, PGA of America and The Masters Tournament conceived a one-of-a-kind skills competition where boys and girls all over the country set out to advance through qualifying stages in hopes of competing at Augusta National during Masters week. What’s even more special? McKenna Nelson, the 2023 Wisconsin State Golf Association’s Player of the Year, is the first Wisconsin junior to be crowned Champion at the DCP Finals. For starters, her 262-yard-drive was amongst four golfers in her age group that shattered the previous record for longest drive at the Finals (251 yards). Next up: chipping – followed by putting on the 18th green. Chipping proved to be troublesome for a few competitors, including Nelson, but she was quick to bounce back. She put together a solid second chip and headed to the putting competition knowing she “wanted to put herself in a good place where she (thought) she could do it (win).” (Clip from Golf Channel’s Kira K. Dixon below). Long story short, she needed to land both the 15-footer and 30-footer within 3.5 feet. The 30-foot putt is first in the rotation – McKenna’s attempt fell within 2’7″ of the hole. The Beaver Dam native rolled the 15 -footer a mere 8″ from the cup to capture first place. A sigh of relief? Certainly. All the hard work paid off. She was just a few minutes away from the trophy ceremony. Taytum (Oswald) finished third overall in the Girls 10-11 age division. The Beloit native placed 3rd and 2nd, respectively, in the driving and chipping disciplines but fell short in putting. Her brother, Trey Oswald, caddied for her during the competition.
